The Mechanicsburg School District certainly goes out of their way to help get kids ready for school, especially the little ones going to school for the first time :)
Last week Megan had her school bus orientation. We started at what they call her "home school"...she will ride the bus from our house to her home school, then get on a second bus, which will take her to the Kindergarten Academy...it sounds a little crazy for 5 years olds, but they actually have a pretty solid system in place!
Here she is with Morgan Biggs at her home school waiting for us to be released to go and ride the bus.
For the past couple of weeks, we have been asking several of our friends who have little ones headed to Kindergarten this year the big question...Who'd your daughter get for a teacher? Well, up to this point we had not found anyone who was going to be in Megan's class.
However, thankfully Megan did learn that her friend, Bekka, from preschool was going to be in Miss Taylor's class, which is also going to be known as the "Monkey Class." (Couldn't be more appropriate for our little Megan...lol).
Megan and Bekka with their monkey name tags... they have to wear these bus tags for the first 3 weeks of school. |
Megan seemed to really enjoy riding the bus, although was a little concerned that there were no seatbelts....she is my little rule-follower, for sure.
After arriving to the Kindergarten Academy, the kids received a presentation by the principle on bus safety...here Megan is getting into the program quite a bit.
After the presentation, we were able to show Megan where here room was located as it was literally right outside of the cafeteria where we had just been. Megan found her name on the bulletin board and was really excited!
For the ride back on the bus, Megan hooked up with her good friend, Tessa. They have been friends at the ECC for the last 3 years.
And, of course, we had to stop for a quick photo with Megan's two favorite twins, Ashley and Taryn...oh how Megan wished that she was going to be in their class!
Megan had a great time riding the bus with Scott and I and her many friends. I'm hopeful that things will go well tomorrow morning when she has to get on the bus for the real deal :)
Another part of the school preparations was their "classroom visitations". They were both held last Thursday and we headed to Alexia's school first.
Alexia has been ready for several weeks to head back to school...she is so excited!!
Alexia has the closest seat to the teacher's desk...I wonder what that means... :)
Alexia actually got to meet her teacher, Mrs. Jenkins, a couple of weeks ago as she had been at the school with her babysitter's mom, helping to get her room ready for the year (Mrs. Shay is a Learning Support Teacher at Alexia's school). So, Alexia was thrilled to see her again and told her she couldn't wait for school to begin.
Then it was off to Megan's school. Megan was not in the best of moods on this day, so I wasn't sure how this was all going to go...but I did manage to get a few smiles out of her for some pics!
Here Megan is with her teacher, Miss Taylor. She is a brand new teacher this year and just graduated from Messiah College in May of this year. So, she has a lot of energy, enthusiasm and many, many cool ideas that she is looking forward to doing with the kids in her class. I think she is going to be a great teacher for Megan!
Here is a group of kiddos that the girls have grown up with at the ECC...they are all such great friends and it was neat for them to all celebrate together the start of this next year. We've been truly blessed with the friendships these girls have developed over the years!
Although Megan has been a bit anxious about going to Kindergarten, we have been trying to include her in different activities to help get her excited...picking out her new book bag, buying school supplies, picking out a new outfit for the first day of school, etc. etc.
Here she is learning how to pack her own lunch...I kind of like this "you're a big girl now" thing!
So, here we are the night before school begins and Alexia's teacher gave all of the kids in her class some "Jitter Glitter." There was a little story that went with it that basically told them to put some of the jitter glitter under their pillows and it would help take away their jitters about the first day of school and then they could get a good night of sleep! Brilliant idea...the girls were very excited about this :)
So, after both of them placing the jitter glitter under their pillows, they were in bed with lights out by 7:00 p.m.! Praying for both of them to sleep well and that they will have an incredible first day of school tomorrow!!!
